Melissa Walker is a psychotherapist based in New York City. She works with people in-person in her Greenwich Village office and is also able to provide therapy via tele-health to those in Florida, Vermont, and Iowa. She has been practicing since 2007, working with individual adults and teens, couples, and groups.

Melissa earned her Master’s Degree in Clinical Social Work at the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College. While there, she completed graduate internships at the New York State Psychiatric Institute, an inpatient research hospital affiliated with Columbia University Medical Center and New York Presbyterian Hospital, and in the counseling center and youth program of a Brooklyn shelter. Melissa has pursued post-graduate training in psychoanalysis at the Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Study Center, and in modern analytic group therapy at the Center for Group Studies. She is currently on the faculty of the Clinical Journeys program at the Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Study Center.

Prior to entering private practice, Melissa worked in a range of settings, including a day program for emotionally troubled teens, inpatient psychiatric units, and community-based outpatient mental health clinics.

Melissa’s background also includes training in cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness practices, family and couples’ therapy, and trauma work. Her approach is informed by all of these, as well as by her practice of yoga, mindfulness, and meditation.
